Hiking and cycling

If you want to unwind, you can go hiking and cycling in several places.

Jabbeke

Jabbeke is home to the Paddegat nature reserve. It consists of water-rich polder meadows where you can take lovely walks. A typical flora and fauna is developed here. Nature reserve Paddegat is one of the last polder pasture relics of the Flemish coast. There is also a forest complex, Maskobossen, south of Jabbeke. The playground De speelplekke is also located here.

Bruges

The green lung around Bruges harbours a hidden treasure of safe, quiet and green cycling and walking routes. A stone's throw from Lissewege is Ter Doest, a low-lying nature reserve with lots of reed beds, ditches, camel grass meadows and saline grasslands. The salt in the soil is not only due to the former presence of mud flats and salt marshes, but also a consequence of the proximity of the higher Boudewijnkanaal. In Oostkamp, you have a nature reserve with several hiking trails, namely Doeveren. Doeveren and its surroundings used to be one big heathland area, but now largely consists of forests. Apart from the Damse Vaart, it is also possible to take nice cycling trips, here you can enjoy the water and nature. You can also take a nice walk with the family on the ramparts of Damme. The paths here are accessible for prams and wheelchairs. After the military importance disappeared, the canals evolved into a diversity of marsh biotopes.

Follow these junctions to cycle to Bruges from Klein Strand: 50 - 53 - 49 - 57 - 65 - 63.

Knokke

Het Zwin nature reserve is highly recommended for walking or cycling. You can enjoy nature and animals here. You can enter the Zwin via the dyke and continue on to Cadzand in the Netherlands. You can also enjoy a wonderful walk on the beach.
